Kenny walk is a smaller part of the larger Port Macquarie Coastal Walk. And it can be done in a 1km loop if you’re looking for a quick coastal fix with maximum views.
The official lookout is located within the Kattang Nature Reserve and you’ll know you’re headed to it when you pass a NSW Parks and Wildlife sign that says “Charles Hamey Lookout 500m” with an arrow pointing into the reserve.
The little beauty is situated on the top of Town Beach and looks northward to the break-wall and Pelican Point and south along the bank of the hill. It’s super convenient being just 5 minutes out of town, with its own parking and a staircase that leads directly down to the beach.
Sitting atop the most easterly headland you’ll find after goingnorth from Sydney is a pristine building from the 1800’s whose brilliant whites had us reminiscing of warm summers in Greece.
For the most part the surrounding trees are quite dense so you’ll feel deep in a rainforest. Every now and then the trees will open up and offer views down toward Shelly beach.
The tide was on its way out when we visited and we found a gorgeous little canal like waterway that was open at both ends to the ocean but had the most calm pool of water sitting right in the middle.
