Carrington Falls: THE EXPERIENCE
As told by Jackie Te-Aroha.
On the South Coast of NSW in the Illawarra region is Budderoo National Park. The park is essentially a rainforest full of waterfalls with a network of lookouts and trails most of which are built for the everyday walker. But theres one particular waterfall here that had been on our must-visit list for its impressive veil like drop, and that’s Carrington.
Carrington falls is a a short 570m loop track from the carpark so easy as for the whole fam to do.
It’s nicely paved and leads its way down to the edge of the escarpment where it immediately opens to the top of the falls. Its advised you don’t go out to the edge here but NSW National Parks aren’t really doing a lot to stop people either. If you do go, just be safe.
Back on track and following the rail along the edge of the cliff you’ll come across the first lookout point in which you can admire the falls in all of her (his or their) beauty.
The water drops 90m into a plunge pool below and travels down along the Kangaroo river. From photos Ive seen the pool below is accessible but from what I’ve read, only via an old unmaintained track that were used by local saw mill employees. We didn’t attempt the walk down so I’m not willing to provide much more info than that
The next part of the track has some metal stairways built into the side of the cliff and rejoins a paved pathway that offers two more lookout points before turning back in.
The third one is definitely the most impressive and because its built slightly out over the edge its all that more exhilarating too.
From here its an easy-is stroll back up to the carpark where you can head off to your next destination.
