THE EXPERIENCE

We chose a beautiful day to do this hike. 25 degrees with little to no wind. Checking the weather before cliff side walks and hikes is essential. Nothing worse than too cold/hot or feeling like you’re getting blown out to sea! If you can’t find parking down in the small parking area, You can park back up on Elanora road like we did. The one and only toilet on this walk is in the parking area so make sure you go before you start!

Beginning the hike in Loves Bay, you will pass quite a few rocks and stones. Then you’ll pass through the gated area which is the official beginning of the track. About 5 minutes in there was a viewing point that you could walk out to on the left. Instant views!

Around the bend we saw some beautiful Aboriginal Dreaming Poles with educational signs reading what certain words meant in their language. The poles had carvings or traditional foods, animals and berries and medicine. Coming around the bend you start to see more of a view of the Headlands. There are lots of fishermen below on the flat rock surface.

Passing the bear bluff if you look to your right you’ll see the railway track to your right. We were 2km in and it was time for a snack, Vegemite and butter on rice cakes… lunch of champions! we found a perfect spot under a shady tree.

Then the past becomes more incline winding around the bend. So we were thankful we refueled when we did! Although the track is steep and inclined in parts, the peacefulness of the ocean and hills beside you makes it easy to get done.

Following the path you’ll eventually see a old rain forest to your left which you can walk through and has a little opening point but be careful it’s a sheer drop with no railing. Halfway there! It went so fast because we were really enjoying the walk.

Before we knew it we had reached Red Cliff and some more Dreaming Poles just before Werri Beach. It look us 4 hours due to all the photo/video stops so we were initially going to get the bus back to Kiama – but realised they don’t operate Sundays! So we thought to get an uber for $20 but instead we chose to spend $20 on some fish and chips then do the walk back hoping to make it before sunset!

We made it back in half the amount of time and just before sunset. We felt great! And we were so happy we chose a good day to do it.
