LEFKES VILLAGE: THE EXPERIENCE
As told by Zade Grilloni.
Lefkes is truly a sight for sore eyes. With every winding path came a beautiful new sight, a new sleepy kitty and a new pretty trees and flowers. The mountainous village of Lefkes was the first capital of Paros. We learnt that it’s winding paths were built purposely to protect the residents from the pirates back in the 15th century.
Being 300 meters above sea level, the views from this place can look way out passed the port, to the sea and also show Paros’ neighbouring island of Naxos. Lefkes also has some cute boutiques selling hand made jewellery and ceramics. Because we came at the end of “tourist season” quite a bit had closed already so if you do love to shop perhaps come in August.
One of the most beautiful spots in Lefkes is the square where the biggest church is. It also has a cute cafe offering traditional small greek plates and freshly squeezed lemonade. We ordered a lemon tart and the lemonade and sat outside in front of the cutest house!
On our way back to the car we noticed some fresh growing chilli plants and thought how great that would taste in our stir fry that we were making that night- so we cheekily grabbed a few.
You could explore this place for hours. There’s photo opportunities at every corner. Just remember to keep your phone charged in case you get lost and need your map! What a wonderful place to get lost in though…
