If you’re hooked on short local walks and either live in or plan on visiting the Penrith Region then keep reading. Mountain View is a short easy walk with a range of different surfaces that can be completed in 30 minutes or less, perfect for those that like quickies.
Mountain View Reserve is an inconspicuous hill on the back of the burbs with loop track that you can start from any access point – Camelot Dr, Nepean St or Cranebrook Rd – the most popular place to park is at the dog park on Soling Crescent, Cranebrook. In saying that, we started at the bottom of Nepean St with the intention of doing the loop and returning to the foot of the hill before the sun set.
The first part of the pathway cuts through some rather dry wetlands that in the right season attracts a range of different bird species. It then bends to the right and begins to incline slightly toward the dog park. At this point you turn right a continue along the road until you reach the Soling Crescent entry point to the reserve.
From here a dirt path leads you through the foliage directly to the lookout. Take a moment to bask in the beauty of the Penrith Lakes and the Lower Blue Mountains before following the dirt track stairway back to lower ground.
The evening sun was just passing behind the mountains when we returned to our starting position casting an incredible glow on the trees along the mountain. But if that wasn’t beautiful enough, when we got the drone up… Wow! What an incredible sight it was.
Mountain View is a totally local track. meaning its never crowded. You can skip the loop and head straight to the lookout which takes legit 5 minutes, or you can extend the walk via the hole in the fence along Nepean St and explore the neighborhood of Waterside. Either way, make sure you get down here at least once to experience a short but fiery sunset.
