Tucked away down a gravel/dirt track is a well kept local secret. It’s a hidden beach on the banks of Lake Macquarie with water so clear it could be likened to the Whitsundays….no joke!
We drove to the very end and parked near Marks Point Boat Ramp. From there it was a 30 second stroll to the shore. To the right were views towards Swan Bay and across the channel and through the center you could see a few other small sand islands each of which had water craft and vessels anchored nearby.
It was time for a swim. We got in via the rock wall and swam across the channel to lay in the shallows in the middle of the lake. The current was visibly non existent. We started noticing a slight pull about 3/4 through but managed to cross without too much effort.
Swimming back we tactfully started a little further up the channel so that we landed exactly where we had began. If those rocks were a target, we would have hit the bullseye.
We laid out a little longer on the shores and people watched until the sun turned up the UV and Zades back and my legs began to burn. Mid way through reapplying the sunscreen we decided to call it and find air conditioning and ice cream before we got beat stroke. If it were 5-10 degrees cooler I would have happily spent the whole day here laxing on the shore with a cider in hand to the sweet melodies of uncle Bob.
