500m to dunes from Birubi Beach Parking
The mini Sahara of NSW. Situated in the Worimi Conservation Lands of Anna Bay, Stockton Beach is a must see when in Sydney. Showcasing a massive 34km stretch, Stockton’s incredible sand dunes are the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The dunes reach heights of over 30 meters – along with slopes of up to 60 degrees.
Getting there is easy – it’s 2.5 hours north of Sydney and 45 minutes north of Newcastle. We’ve been around 3 times and they definitely wont be the last! On our most recent visit we arrived just in time for sunset and a few days later enjoyed the sunrise from here also
When you get to the beach there’s a small car park, a cafe and toilets. From the car park you’ll see where they conduct all of the tours, if you start walking in that direction you can head up to the dunes. From the car park it takes around 5 – 10 minutes walk.
The beauty of different textures are everywhere you look. Constantly moving and forming different patterns with the winds, these dunes are something spectacular. If there’s one thing we wish we brought along with us it would 100 percent be our boogie boards to slide down those slopes. There’s always next time!
If you have a FWD you can visit Tin City, a little known community living in 11 self-made tin sheds built over 100 years ago! They also do FWD tours that visit Tin City along with Camel Riding and Quad Biking. Or our personal favorite, just walking up on to the dunes for a sunrise/set. Trust us, its worth it!
At any time of the day this place magical so make you sure check it out!
