THE EXPERIENCE
If you’re a sucker for a good lookout and don’t mind working for it.. we’ve got the perfect hike for you! Sublime Point walking track is very well known in the Illawarra region. It’s a challenging yet rewarding trek through the lush coastal rain forest that ends up overlooking 17 beaches that span the coastline to Wollongong. We highly recommend doing the hike in the early am and in spring or autumn. We have done it in summer and it was less enjoyed with the heat but when you visit is entirely up to you.
It’s 850m beginning from Asquith street for an easier climb or Hill Street then Foothills Rd for a steeper climb to the start on Gibsons Track. But don’t be fooled by the distance… it took us an hour and a half getting up and around 20 minutes coming down! Initially the path seems fairly moderate with semi flat surfaces.
But soon enough the trail starts getting real inclined and the challenging 1000 stairs come through. Wooden stairs and steel ladders guide you to the top. It was definitely a good cardio session. Being so close to Sydney, it is an absolute must if you’re around Wollongong!
